Bountiful harvest brings full bins
The general manager of FS GRAIN says a bountiful harvest and low commodity prices means a lot of grain in the countryside.
Cory Winstead says the northern Illinois-based cooperative is operating at peak capacity this fall.
“In some areas we thought it was going to be better than it ended up, but all in all an average or better crop this year.” He says, “We definitely have a lot on the ground. In our system, we have three piles which equates to about three million bushels. Those are full.”
He tells Brownfield…
“There is a lot of corn and soybeans out there still.” He says, “I’ve seen customers in the area use bags for the first time. I think a lot of the bins, or any bin they could find even if it hadn’t been used for a while, was prepped and ready to go for this crop.”
Winstead says many farmers are holding onto the crop hopeful for a bounce in the market.
