Brazil on track for record soybean crop

Brazil remains on track to produce a record soybean crop in 2025.

Iowa State University Extension economist Chad Hart says the South American country continues to build production capacity.

“They’ve been adding land, but also they’re seeing the same yield trends that we’re seeing here within the U.S. So we know that their production continues to increase.”

He tells Brownfield the size of the South American crop will put downward pressure on U.S. soybean prices, and Hart is concerned tariffs will too.

“Brazil and Argentina are sitting on the outside and basically they can benefit from some of the uncertainty that’s being created today. Because when you think about those lost sales we might have because of tariffs, you’ve got to think what countries are picking up those sales?”

He says those countries are Brazil and Argentina.

Brazil soybean production is expected to be more than 10 percent above last year.
