A regional agronomist with Brevant Seeds says the next generation of agriculture is getting hands on experience through the company’s Turn the Bag Blue & Gold program.

Brianna Gehrig says it allows FFA students to work with ag leaders in the field.

“We partner with the National FFA Organization to provide hands-on agronomic education and career development.”  She says, “These kids are getting an opportunity to be in the fields and the plots with us, as well as getting a little bit of opportunity to sell the farmers themselves.”

She tells Brownfield it’s also a fundraising opportunity for participating chapters.

“For every bag the FFA students sell, they will earn about $35 back to their local chapter, $15 to the state, and $15 to the national organization.”  She says, “So, this way it is not only just them getting to experience job shadowing or agronomy skills, but also raising money for their chapter.”

Gehrig says the program is an opportunity for Brevant to invest in ag’s next generation, as well as potentially develop a workforce pipeline for the company.
