Bridging the gap between consumers and farmers
One of USFRA’s Faces of Farming says the program has allowed her to help consumers better understand how their food makes it from the farm to the table.
Michigan dairy farmer Carla Wardin says today’s consumers continue to want to know more about how their food is raised. But not everybody has a personal relationship with a farmer.
Wardin says USFRA’s Faces of Farming program helps to bridge that gap. “I love that they are able to find people online and in person that they are able to talk to,” she says. “I’m really happy that through the website that USFRA has they can reach out to any farmer and we will be able to answer their questions.”
For the last two years, she has opened her farm’s gates to the virtual world – giving consumers an all-access pass to see what happens on a family dairy operation.
And now USFRA is looking for its next Faces of Farming. Wardin says farmers have until July 10th to apply. “If you enjoy what you’re doing right now as a farmer and you enjoy talking to people about it, being a representative of farmers is a really great step to take,” she says.
Applications can be found HERE.
