Bright Farms announces Near West Indianapolis location

A state-of-the-art hydroponic greenhouse is headed to Near West Indianapolis.  The 100,000 square foot greenhouse is in partnership with Bright Farms and the Westside Community Development Corporation.  Bright Farms builds greenhouses at or near supermarkets and grows fresh, local produce on a year round basis.

The farm will be built on a 5-acre parcel of land off of W. Michigan Street that has been vacant since 1996.  The development will create up to 25 green collar jobs and grow millions of pounds of produce.

Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann says Bright Farms is a combination of locally grown produce and urban agriculture and she’s grateful they selected Indiana as a business hub.

Phil Votaw, Executive Director of the WCDC says, “The BrightFarms’ greenhouse is a symbol of WCDC’s longstanding effort to revitalize Near West Indianapolis.”

The farm will be completed in 2014.
