Brisk harvest pace in northwest Minnesota

Harvest is advancing quickly in northwest Minnesota.

Blair Hoseth of Mahnomen tells Brownfield he’s about 90 percent done with soybeans.

“We started (around) Labor Day and we had beans down as low as 9 percent (moisture) on Labor Day, so that was kind of an extreme record for the early side.”

Hoseth delivered soybeans to the local elevator this Friday morning.

“And I talked to the elevator person there, and he was saying they think about half of the soybeans in the area have been harvested so far.”

He says yields vary.

“If you had lighter soil that missed the rain, I’ve been hearing some guys are down to 10 bushel (per acre).”

On his farm, Hoseth says lighter soils are yielding around 20 bushels per acre and closer to 60 on the best ground.
