Broiler hatchery holds higher trend

Broiler sets and placements continue to move above year ago levels.

The USDA says 237.473 million broiler-type eggs were set into incubation, dropping 6.427 million on the week, but that was also up 3% on the year, continuing to point to a year-over-year gain in production.

Average hatchability was unchanged at 79.7%.

Placements of broiler-type chicks into meat production were 192.945 million head, 239,000 less than the previous week, but up 2% from last year, with those birds headed to market in late October or early November.

The USDA’s updated annual broiler production estimate is out October 11th.

Comparisons for Brownfield states:

Arkansas: Sets: 24.204 million eggs, compared to 25.16 million the prior week; Placements: 21.815 million head, compared to 20.567 million the previous week

Kentucky: Sets: 8.172 million eggs, compared to 8.129 million the prior week; Placements: 6.051 million head, compared to 6.188 million the previous week

Missouri: Sets: 9.02 million eggs, unchanged from the prior week; Placements: 5.264 million head, compared to 6.29 million the previous week

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 15.526 million eggs, compared to 15.606 million the prior week; Placements: 13.62 million head, compared to 13.639 million the previous week
