Broiler hatchery numbers continue to rise

The USDA’s weekly broiler hatchery numbers continue to imply a year-to-year increase in chicken production.

250.597 million broiler-type eggs were put into incubation last week, 2.163 million higher than the week before and 4% above a year ago, with average hatchability improving slightly to 79.5%.

190.778 million broiler-type chicks entered meat production, a decline of 1.164 million on the week, but still up 1% on the year, with those birds moving to market this late this summer or in early fall.

The USDA’s updated 2024 and 2025 broiler production projections are out Monday, August 12th.

Comparisons for Brownfield states:

Arkansas: Sets: 25.964 million eggs, compared to 25.839 million last week; Placements: 22.177 million head, compared to 20.806 million the week before

Kentucky: Sets: 8.013 million eggs, compared to 8.148 million last week; Placements: 6.16 million eggs, compared to 5.685 million the week before

Missouri: Sets: 9.022 million eggs, compared to 9.007 million last week; Placements: 5.81 million eggs, compared to 5.503 million the week before

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 15.86 million eggs, compared to 15.56 million last week; Placements: 13.797 million eggs, compared to 13.092 million the week before
