Broiler numbers hold to higher trend

Broiler hatchery numbers continue to point to higher production.

The USDA says 247.672 million broiler-type eggs entered incubation last week, up 2.121 million from the prior week and 2% from a year ago as average hatchability remained around 80%.

189.191 million broiler-type chicks were placed into meat production, a rise of 1.402 million on the week and 2% on the year, with those birds heading to market in mid-winter.

The USDA’s updated 2024 and 2025 broiler production projections are out December 10th.

Comparisons for Brownfield states:

Arkansas: Sets: 25.771 million head, compared to 25.182 million the previous week; Placements: 21.026 million head, compared to 21.36 million the week before

Kentucky: Sets: 8.19 million head, compared to 8.14 million the previous week; Placements: 5.758 million head, compared to 5.834 million the week before

Missouri: Sets: 9.201 million head, compared to 8.805 million the previous week; Placements: 5.896 million head, compared to 5.298 million the week before

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 15.728 million head, compared to 15.845 million the previous week; Placements: 13.947 million head, compared to 14.118 million the week before
