Broiler sets, placement hold higher trend

Domestic broiler sets and placement were up on the year last week.

The USDA says 248.86 million broiler-type eggs were placed into incubation, climbing 658,000 from the previous week and moving 4% above a year ago, with the average hatchability rate holding at 79.5%.

192.825 million broiler-type chickens entered meat production, 395,000 less than the prior week, but 3% more than last year, with those birds heading to market in late September or early October.

The USDA’s updated broiler production projection is out September 12th.

Arkansas: Sets: 25.536 million eggs, compared to 25.729 million the previous week; Placements: 20.23 million head, compared to 21.969 million the week before

Kentucky: Sets: 8.048 million eggs, compared to 8.123 million the previous week; Placements: 6.102 million head, compared to 6.195 million the week before

Missouri: Sets: 8.865 million eggs, compared to 8.833 million the previous week; Placements: 5.515 million head, compared to 5.585 million the week before

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 15.744 million eggs, compared to 15.659 million the previous week; Placements: 14.549 million head, compared to 13.475 million the week before
