Broiler sets, placements above a year ago

Broiler sets and placements were up on the year.

The USDA says 243.791 million eggs entered incubation, slightly more than the week before that and 2% above a year ago, with average hatchability holding at 79%, heading for meat production in April.

187.749 million chicks were placed into meat production last week, about a half million less than the week before, but 1% more than last year, which will go to market in May.

The USDA’s annual broiler production outlook update is scheduled for April 11th.

Arkansas: Sets: 24.774 million eggs, compared to 25.096 million a week ago; Placements: 21.267 million head, compared to 21.554 million last week

Kentucky: Sets: 8.088 million eggs, compared to 8.062 million a week ago; Placements: 5.943 million head, compared to 5.6 million last week

Missouri: Sets: 8.798 million eggs, compared to 8.705 million a week ago; Placements: 5.522 million head, compared to 5.425 million last week

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 13.737 million eggs, compared to 13.894 million a week ago; Placements: 12.527 million head, compared to 12.339 million last week
