Broiler sets, placements remain ahead of 2023 pace

Broiler sets and placements continue to run ahead of last year’s pace.

The USDA says 245.524 million eggs were in incubation at the end of last week, slightly higher than the prior week and 1% faster than a year ago, with average hatchability holding at 79.1%.

Placements of broiler-type chicks into meat production were 188.877 million head, a little bit below the previous week, but up modestly on the year, with those birds moving to slaughter next month.

The USDA’s next set of annual broiler production projections is out Wednesday, June 12th.

Comparisons for Brownfield states:

Arkansas: Sets: 25.678 million eggs, compared to 25.507 million a week ago; Placements: 21.335 million head, compared to 22.817 million last week

Kentucky: Sets: 8.199 million eggs, compared to 8.057 million a week ago; Placements: 5.815 million head, compared to 6.099 million last week

Missouri: Sets: 8.769 million eggs, compared to 8.785 million a week ago; Placements: 5.659 million head, compared to 5.09 million last week

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 13.422 million eggs, compared to 13.436 million a week ago; Placements: 12.231 million head, compared to 11.768 million last week
