Broiler sets, placements see another week of gains

The USDA’s weekly broiler hatchery numbers continue to point to increased production in 2024.

247.956 million broiler-type eggs were set into incubators by hatcheries last week, 1.284 million less than the prior week, but 3% more than a year ago, with average hatchability at 79.3%.

191.641 million broiler-type chicks were placed into meat production by growers, an increase of 1.239 million head on the week and 2% on the year, with cumulative 2024 placements running 1% ahead of 2023.

Those birds will head to market in late summer.

The USDA’s updated annual broiler production outlook is out August 12th.

Comparisons for Brownfield states:

Arkansas: Sets: 25.839 million eggs, compared to 26.002 million the previous week; Placements: 20.806 million head, compared to 21.082 million the week before

Kentucky: Sets: 8.147 million eggs, compared to 8.137 million the previous week; Placements: 5.692 million head, compared to 6.001 million the week before

Missouri: Sets: 9.007 million eggs, compared to 8.948 million the previous week; Placements: 5.503 million head, compared to 5.485 million the week before

California/Missouri/West Virginia: Sets: 15.214 million eggs, compared to 15.432 million the previous week; Placements: 12.936 million head, compared to 12.368 million the week before
