Broiler sets, placements see slight week-to-week increase

Broiler hatchery numbers continued their trend above year ago levels last week.

The USDA says there were 244.852 million eggs in incubation, up slightly on both the week and the year, with the average hatchability improving fractionally to 79.1%.

189.572 million chicks entered meat production, a little bit below the previous week, but 1% above a year ago, with those birds heading to market around mid-summer.

The USDA’s next broiler production projection is out June 12th.

Comparisons for Brownfield states:

Arkansas: Sets: 25.399 million eggs, compared to 25.866 million a week ago; Placements: 21.034 million head, compared to 20.934 million last week

Kentucky: Sets: 8.092 million eggs, compared to 8.133 million a week ago; Placements: 5.895 million head, compared to 5.992 million last week

Missouri: Sets: 8.857 million eggs, compared to 8.901 million a week ago; Placements: 6.446 million head, compared to 5.818 million last week

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 13.223 million eggs, compared to 13.404 million a week ago; Placements: 11.515 million head, compared to 12.679 million last week
