Broiler sets, placements stay ahead of 2023 pace
The USDA is reporting another year-to-year increase for broiler chicken sets and placements. That trend continues to point towards larger broiler chicken production in 2024 than 2023.
249.031 million broiler-type eggs entered incubation last week, a decline of 1.274 million on the week, but up 4% on the year, with average hatchability holding at 79.5%.
Placements of broiler-type chicks into meat production totaled 193.202 million head, a rise of 2.361million from the previous week and 2% from a year ago.
Those chickens will head to market early this fall.
The USDA currently projects 2024 broiler chicken production at 46.876 billion pounds, 489 million more than 2023, with the next estimate out September 12th.
