Broiler sets, placements up 4% on year

U.S. broiler sets and placements were up solidly on both the week and the year.

The USDA says 247.440 million broiler-type eggs were set into incubators, up 8.883 million on the week and 4% on the year as hatcheries try to meet demand expectations.

The average hatchability improved slightly, remaining just below 80%.

189.344 million broiler-type chicks moved into meat production, 2.787 million higher than the previous week and 4% above a year ago, with those birds heading to market in early 2025.

The USDA’s updated 2024 and 2025 broiler production projections are out December 10th.

Comparisons for Brownfield states:

Arkansas: Sets: 25.694 million eggs, compared to 25.013 million the week before; Placements: 21.804 million head, compared to 21.208 million the prior week

Kentucky: Sets: 8.257 million eggs, compared to 8.044 million the week before; Placements: 5.844 million head, compared to 6.134 million the prior week

Missouri: Sets: 9.157 million eggs, compared to 8.547 million the week before; Placements: 5.433 million head, compared to 5.368 million the prior week

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 15.772 million eggs, compared to 15.407 million the week before; Placements: 14.07 million head, compared to 13.945 million the prior week
