Broiler sets, placements up on the year

The USDA’s reporting another year-over-year rise in broiler hatchery numbers.

243.356 million broiler-type eggs were set into incubators last week, up 6.31 million on the week and 5% on the year, with average hatchability holding just below 80% at 79.8%.

192.361 million broiler-type chicks entered meat production, 355,000 less than the previous week, but 4% more than a year ago, with those birds heading to slaughter starting in November.

The USDA’s updated annual broiler production estimate is out October 11th.

Arkansas: Sets: 25.366 million eggs, compared to 24.204 million the prior week; Placements: 22.04 million head, compared to 21.815 million the week before

Kentucky: Sets: 7.949 million eggs, compared to 8.17 million the prior week; Placements: 6.039 million head, compared to 6.022 million the week before

Missouri: Sets: 8.872 million eggs, compared to 9.02 million the prior week; Placements: 5.112 million head, compared to 5.272 million the week before

Tennessee: Sets: 15.653 million eggs, compared to 15.394 million the prior week; Placements: 13.973 million head, compared to 13.429 million the week before
