Broiler sets up on week, placements down
The USDA reports a mixed week for broiler hatchery numbers.
252.187 million broiler-type eggs were set into incubators, up 260,000 on the week, while 192.649 million broiler type chicks were placed into meat production, down 1.553 million.
Both sets and placements were 1% ahead of last year, with cumulative placements for 2025 to date also 1% faster than 2024.
Birds placed into meat production typically take at least four weeks to go to market.
The USDA’s updated annual broiler production projection is out June 12th.

Arkansas: Sets: 26.464 million eggs, compared to 26.335 million the week before; Placements: 22.126 million head, compared to 21.777 million the prior week
Kentucky: Sets: 8.337 million eggs, compared to 8.437 million the week before; Placements: 6.103 million head, compared to 6.254 million the prior week
Missouri: Sets: 9.222 million eggs, compared to 9.126 million the week before; Placements: 6.123 million head, compared to 5.118 million the prior week
California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 15.644 million eggs, compared to 16.023 million the week before; Placements: 13.931 million head, compared to 14.649 million the prior week
