Building international trade relationships for the US wheat industry

Ohio Corn and Wheat’s director of market development says continuing to expand international trade relationships could benefit the U.S. wheat industry.

Wendy Osborn says the quality of U.S. wheat sets it apart from other competitors on the global market.

“With a plentiful supply and a great wheat crop, we produce more than what we can consume here in the United States, so need to make sure that we’re expanding those trade relationships all over the world,” she says.

She tells Brownfield two trade delegations have recently visited Ohio to learn more about crop production in the United States.

“About 50% of the wheat in the United States is exported, and so the work that we’re doing with these trade missions to encourage more trade relationships, building those markets, and expanding our markets is going to be critical moving forward,” she says.

Osborn says strengthening ties with global buyers will be key to long-term demand growth for U.S. agricultural products.
