Business booming for grain bin manufacturer Sukup

Business is booming for one of the world’s largest grain bin and grain handling manufacturers.

Sukup Manufacturing territory manager for southern Iowa and Missouri Kent Creighton says 2020 was already a fantastic year for sales even before the rally in grain prices.

“Of course we had the derecho storm late summer, which really hurt a lot of central Iowa crops. But a lot of (farmers) were also able to take advantage of some of that through insurance payments and stuff and be able to redesign their systems.”

He tells Brownfield soaring commodity prices and government payments then drove a lot of early winter sales.

“So Sukup, we’re full. We’re not full to the point we can’t take more orders, but we definitely have plenty on our plate right now.”

Creighton says interest is coming from Colorado to New York, and not just in grain storage.

“Whether it’s the steel buildings, dryers, some of the handling equipment to try to speed up these processes.”

Brownfield interviewed Creighton Tuesday at the Iowa Ag Expo in Des Moines.

Sukup is based in north-central Iowa.
