Bustos introduces bill to expand trade with Cuba

Illinois Congresswoman Cheri Bustos is the co-sponsor of a bill that would expand trade with Cuba.

The Cuba Agricultural Exports Act would drop restrictions on export financing to Cuba and allow limited U.S. investment in Cuban agribusinesses.

Bustos says the legislation is needed to open new markets for U.S. farmers and manufacturers. Co-sponsor Rick Crawford of Arkansas says the Cuba embargo put in place to weaken Cuba’s socialist government has instead stopped US business opportunities close to home.

The Illinois Farm Bureau and Illinois Soybean Growers strongly support the bill.
