Canada restricts Texas livestock imports following screwworm detection
A U.S. Senator is concerned the confirmation of New World screwworm in the southern U.S. will restrict U.S. beef exports.
Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley tells Brownfield Canada has temporarily blocked livestock imports from Texas.
“In other words, we’ve got to get on top of it.”
He says U.S. Ag Secretary Rollins should push for the use of medical treatment.
“And if by any chance she has a conversation with Secretary of HHS RFK Jr and he doesn’t like the idea, tell him to take care of health and Rollins will take care of agriculture.”
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said this week animals that are from Texas or were present in the state within 21 days of a border crossing will not be allowed into the country.
