Cattle markets, input costs headline Rep. Hinson’s Women in Ag Roundtable
Some cattle producers say they are cautiously optimistic about the continued strength in the markets.
Lisa Kubik of Traer tells Brownfield live and feeder cattle futures continue to trade near all-time highs. “Cattle prices the last couple of years have been great,” she said. “As a cattle producer ourselves, we’ve definitely benefited from that.”
But she says historically, cattle markets are cyclical. “Those high prices don’t stay that way for very long,” Kubik said. “Just the last couple of weeks we’ve seen those markets really start to drop.”
U.S. Congresswoman Ashley Hinson says many of the cattle producers at her Women in Ag Roundtable in Tama on Mondaywere concerned about the long-term impact of elevated input costs. “That crimps your bottom line,” Hinson said. “Every available ounce of dollars that you could be investing in new equipment is just going to make sure you can survive.”
Kubik and Hinson both spoke to Brownfield following the conclusion of the roundtable discussion.
