Cattle producer says feed costs have been manageable

A southwest Iowa cattle producer says it’s been a calm start to the fall.

Justin Ewalt says some input prices have leveled out. “Feed costs are manageable at the moment. We’ve had a stretch here where cattle prices are pretty high on the fat side of things.”

He tells Brownfield a few challenges continue to impact his operation. “The cost of processing and things have kind of gone through the roof, so we’re managing that. Little different dynamic to the business and trying to compete at a certain level with some of the chain type stores and still make a product that people can manage into their budgets and still be proud of.”

Ewalt raises nearly 500 head of feeder cattle near Tabor.
