Cenex’s spring equipment checklist

A district manager of lubricants for Cenex says farmers should consider equipment maintenance in their spring planting checklist.

Scot Hermanson tells Brownfield tractors and planters need to be cleaned and lubricated. “We want to make sure things get greased up in the right areas of the tractor and planter. Not only that, but just looking at the grease that they use, reevaluating what type of grease they are using.”

He says producers should inspect hoses that transport fluids. “Making sure there’s no tears or start of tears on those hoses. We want to eliminate hoses breaking because that’s a lot of fluid that could be dumped in a short amount of time. That’s very costly and causes down time.”

Hermanson says farmers can also utilize an oil analysis to help identify any quality issues.

He spoke to Brownfield at the 2025 Commodity Classic in Denver, Colorado.
