Central Illinois farmer wraps up record harvest
A central Illinois farmer says it was a record year on his farm.
Ron Kindred, who farms in Logan County, says his operation wrapped up harvest in just 31 days.
“Had the best soybean yields we’ve ever had.” He says, “Corn was not the best, but close to the best we’ve ever had, so very, very lucky and very thankful.”
He tells Brownfield early planted soybeans paid off this year.
“There was quite a difference in early April planted soybeans and May planted soybeans.” He says, “There was a good five-to-ten-bushel difference. We saw that three years ago, but the last two years we really hadn’t seen that difference.”
Kindred says the dry finish to the growing season had a greater impact on soybeans.
“On the corn side, we didn’t plant until mid-May, and it yielded better than we anticipated,” he says.
Kindred currently serves as the chair of the Illinois Soybean Association and spoke with Brownfield at the 2024 NAFB Convention in Kansas City.
