Central Iowa farmer expects corn harvest to pick up soon

Corn harvest has been slow in parts of central Iowa.

Lee Tesdell farms in northern Polk County near Slater. “I have almost no neighbors that are in corn yet. There’s one neighbor that’s kind of a go getter and he’s taken some corn out. But I would say most neighbors are still on beans and maybe just getting ready to switch to corn.”

He tells Brownfield his crops were impacted by the abnormally dry conditions throughout the growing season. “I would think with that extremely hot week we had, the crops really got baked those several days and I have to think that everything’s drying down a little early because of that.”

But, Tesdell says he had a strong alfalfa crop this year.
