Central Nebraska farmer seeing variable harvest results, despite large crop
Harvest has been variable for some in central Nebraska.
Mike Bergen, who farms in Hamilton County, tells Brownfield…
“I think we thought in August, July, coming off a wet spring and early wet summer, that we were going to have record-setting yields across the board, and the dry finish definitely deflated some of those.”
Despite some tempered expectations on yields, Bergen says he is still anticipating a big crop.
“We’re seeing 120 to 180 bushels for corn in dryland. Again, it’s variable, but for the most part, corn from end to end had definitely higher averages,” he says.
Bergen says some grain elevators are full.
“Ground piles definitely are very prevalent in central Nebraska. I’ve talked to a couple elevators that said records have been set this year on on harvest delivery,” he says.
Bergen says he expects to wrap up harvest by mid-week.
