Cheese hits record high for August

The latest U.S. dairy stocks report shows slight declines month-to-month for August.

The USDA’s Cold Storage report pegs cheese stocks at nearly 1.5 billion pounds, down modestly from the prior month but up one percent on the year. Both total cheese and other types of cheese, like mozzarella and parmesan, posted record highs for the month.

Butter inventories were down 12 percent from last month but up four percent from a year ago at slightly more than 289 million pounds.
