A U.S. Attorney has charged three research scholars from the People’s Republic of China for conspiracy to smuggle biological materials into the United States as part of ongoing investigations at the University of Michigan.

The Attorney General says the men are part of a long and alarming pattern of criminal activities committed by Chinese Nationals under the guise of ‘research’ at the university, which threatens America’s national and agricultural security.

The students were the recipients of multiple shipments containing concealed biological materials related to nematode research, and removed from their programs after refusing to participate in internal investigations by the university.

Four scholars have now been linked to ongoing investigations of Michigan’s Shawn Xu laboratory.
