Chopping underway for eastern Iowa farmer, harvest starting soon
Field activity is picking up steam for eastern Iowa farmer Lance Lillibridge.
“We chopped corn (Sunday). That was about all the harvesting we’ve done so far. It looked pretty good.”
He tells Brownfield he plans to start harvesting some early-planted corn next week.
“It’s doing pretty well and turning. With this warm weather coming up this week – we’re talking almost 90 degrees by the end of the week – I think things are going to change very rapidly.”
Lillibridge says he’s cautiously optimistic about his corn crop.
“We had three wind events. The corn here took a beating. It was pretty resilient and stood back up pretty well, but I’m guessing if we don’t get after it fast we’re probably going to have some issues.”
Lillibridge raises a corn-on-corn rotation near Vinton in Benton County.
