Christmas holiday still presents opportunity for poinsettia growers

The owner of an Indiana based greenhouse says poinsettias offer them an opportunity to diversify their operation.

Tim Galema is the owner of Galema’s Greenhouse.

“It blooms when the days get short, no matter what part of the world it’s in,” he says. “Most of the time, the timing of them is right around Christmas time.”

He tells Brownfield the crop provides an additional source of revenue.

“There is still a good demand for poinsettias,” he says. “It’s especially good for groups that use them as fundraisers to further their organization and raise money.”

Galema says ties to the winter season help drive sales.
