Christmas tree grower says season has been great
A northern Illinois Christmas tree grower says it’s been nearly an ideal summer for her crop.
Sadie Asher says she and her husband, Shane, are developing a 21-acre agri-tourism operation in Henry County.
“Growing up in the corn and soybean world, showing hogs, showing cows, going to Christmas trees and specialty crops was not at all what I had planned but it’s been so cool to learn something new,” she says.
She tells Brownfield…
“We have since planted 1200 trees over the last four years and we’ve gotten such timely rains this year, until now, that watering has actually not been as much of a constant pain,” she says.
Asher says they plan to eventually harvest around 200 trees each year once fully operational.
Asher was named the 2024 winner of the Illinois Farm Bureau’s Young Leader Excellence in Agriculture award. The Excellence in Agriculture award recognizes Young Leaders who are actively contributing and growing their involvement in IFB and the agriculture industry.
