Christmas tree growers say prices not increasing for consumers

Christmas tree growers expect to keep prices stable with less inflationary pressure this year.

Real Christmas Tree Board Executive Director Marsha Gray tells Brownfield nearly half of wholesale growers in their annual survey said their input costs were up less than five percent.

“This year, 60 percent said they were not increasing their wholesale prices, so we think that’s really good news.”

She says Thanksgiving weekend and the first weekend of December are when growers make the majority of their sales.

“If the tree’s been harvested even a day ago, it is resealed the SAP in the tree has sealed the bottom of the tree up,” she explains. “It will not take up water if you don’t get it a fresh cut. Give it that fresh cut, get it home and into water right away.”

Gray recommends knowing the size of tree that will fit in your house before you go and says to expect to pay at least $10 per foot. Oregon, North Carolina, and Michigan are the nation’s top Christmas tree-producing states.
