CHS encouraged by rising export demand
A global grain merchandiser is encouraged by an uptick in U.S. corn and soybean exports.
CHS CEO Jay Debertin says foreign demand has slowly trended higher.
“North American grain results were more challenged largely due to export volumes earlier this year being particularly light, and we felt that being an export company. Volumes are picking up right now, and that’s great to see.”
He tells Brownfield trade is the backbone behind CHS.
“And those export bids have a big impact all the way back to the processing bid in the domestic market, so it’s just really, really important for us. So at CHS, we spend a lot of time talking about the benefits of trade and making the case on behalf of agriculture of the need for trade.”
Debertin says this is the time of year when U.S. corn and soybean exports are typically in high demand with the new crop being harvested and South American production a few months away.
