CHS offering 2018 contracts for Pioneer-brand Plenish soybeans

CHS Food Processing will again offer production contracts for Pioneer-brand Plenish high oleic soybeans to growers in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa.
2018 will be the second year of CHS contracting Plenish beans at its Fairmont, Minnesota plant.
CHS director of refined oils and proteins David Mack says farmers in the region can expect greater access to this value-added opportunity.
“The growers need to see that genetically, these beans will yield as good if not better than all their top varieties. And when you can throw a $.30 to $.50 cent-per bushel premium on top of it all, there’s definitely an economic benefit.”
Randy Schlatter with DuPont Pioneer says Plenish high oleic soybeans have been developed for specific growing areas.
Rochelle Krusemark, who farms near Trimont in south central Minnesota, grew Plenish soybeans this year.
“We need to have a diversified market, so we’re always looking for new uses. And I was a health major, so having a product that offers characteristics (like) zero trans-fat and lower saturated fats than other commodity soybean oil was attractive.”
Krusemark says the Plenish varieties yielded comparable to their commodity soybeans, and they will likely increase their Plenish acres in 2018.
