CHS to close Port of Superior grain facility

CHS has announced they will close their Superior, Wisconsin grain terminal this fall.

The cooperative has notified the State of Wisconsin by letter, saying 23 laborers will be out of work September 8^th, and two managers will be terminated at the end of the year.

The Port of Superior facility was built in 1936. and can store 18.5 million bushels and load Great Lakes vessels at a rate of 80-thousand bushels per hour, but grain shipments from the Twin Ports have been declining steadily for the past 40 years.

CHS could not be reached for an interview by publishing time, but issued a written statement saying they are focused on driving growth and efficiency for the future and is committed to farmers in northern Minnesota, and that they remain committed to providing access to global markets. CHS says they are closing the Superior site because of how grain flows through the supply chain.
