Clean fuels industry needs guidance

The CEO of Clean Fuels Alliance America says the industry needs guidance from the new Trump administration if it’s going to continue to grow.

Donnell Rehagen says recent announcements surrounding the 45Z tax credit for sustainable aviation fuel are a start.

“And the delays have already begun causing real hardships for our industry.”  He says, “The Treasury released guidance, and it left us with a few answers, but it left us with a lot of questions.  Our feedstock producers, our fuel producers, they deserve clarity on how the tax credit will impact.”

He tells Brownfield the EPA has also yet to release updated Renewable Fuel Standard obligations after a November deadline was missed.

“This makes it all the more critical that we advocate for significant growth in those volumes and push this administration to finalize them soon.”  He says, “So, we don’t find ourselves this time next year without RVO levels for 2026.”

Rehagen says both issues are paramount to the industry as it seeks to top the record-setting five billion gallons of renewable fuels produced in 2024.

Rehagen’s remarks opened the 2025 Clean Fuels Conference in San Diego.
