Climatologist discusses “rollercoaster” winter

A climatologist with the National Drought Mitigation Center says the winter season has provided a rollercoaster of conditions.

Brian Fuchs tells Brownfield, “We can get those big snow events, but we could easily be 70 degrees as well.”

He says a seasonal drought outlook was released late last week and it had mixed results for farmers and ranchers. “If does look like the further east you go that some of the drought we’re seeing in the Upper Midwest that we could see some improvement. But through the Plains states and into the West drought’s going to be a topic we’re talking about going forward.”

Fuchs says Kansas producers could face some extensive drought conditions if current models hold up.
