Climbing organic grain markets sparking farmer interest

A senior merchandiser with central Illinois-based Clarkson Grain says the organic grain markets have steadily climbed in recent months.

In a recent FarmDoc webinar, Kelsey Graber says lackluster 2025 yields domestically and abroad have sent prices considerably higher.

“When we started this crop year in harvest of 2025, organic yellow feed corn was somewhere between $6.50 and $7 a bushel.”  She says, “We’re currently in the $13 to $15 a bushel range.”

She says past cases of fraudulent organic imports have also tightened supplies.

“We have seen a lot of organic fraud that has brought the soybean market down in past years.”  She says, “Those soybeans are coming from Africa, from India, and a lot of those have been put on bans from the government.”

Graber says demand for organic grains continues to climb, and she says the sluggish ag economy is bringing increased interest in organics from some farmers looking to shore up their bottom line.
