CNH is partnering with Michigan State University and Penn State University to support education and research efforts using New Holland’s new fully methane-powered tractor.

Product Marketing Manager Sean Dorosz tells Brownfield the T6 Methane tractor is well-suited for dairies with anaerobic digesters.

“You have a complete circle of activity from feeding the cows with the methane tractor, the cows produce the methane, you clean it, then put it back in the tractor, and on you go through the cycle,” he says.

He says the university partnerships will also help introduce dairy farmers and equipment technicians to the new technology.

“Because the majority of the tractor is built the same as the diesel tractor, they can do quite a number of normal tractor training in addition to the unique compressed natural gas parts on it,” he explains. “In addition to the Michigan dealers, we can help the Ohio dealers, maybe even ones from Wisconsin or even Illinois.”

Dorosz says the methane tractors are also ideal for landfills, municipalities, airports, and other entities with access to natural gas.

“It’s 98% cleaner out the tailpipe than a stage 5 diesel tractor is,” he says.

Dorosz says MSU was selected because of its commitment to sustainability and advancements in dairy farm research.

The tractor was unveiled during MSU’s recent Innovating with Dairy Symposium.
