Conaway continues to seek votes to move the Farm Bill forward

The House Ag Committee Chairman, who hopes to have the bill on the House Floor next week, is confident he will soon have the support needed to pass the farm bill.

Michael Conaway of Texas told farm broadcasters recently that the Bill would be on the House Floor as soon as he could convince leadership he has the 218 votes.

But, he is being met with opposition. A coalition of 14 conservative groups, including Heritage Action, published a letter opposing the farm bill. The groups say it is unacceptable and fails to make reforms to farm subsidies.

Ranking Member Collin Peterson has also said the bill is unfixable and that Democrats won’t amend it. They continue to oppose work requirements for SNAP recipients.

Tomorrow Conaway will talk about the proposed SNAP changes during an event at DC-based American Enterprise Institute, a conservative policy think tank.
