Concern tariffs could impact U.S. ethanol exports
There is concern tariffs could impact U.S. ethanol exports.
Iowa Renewable Fuels Association executive director Monte Shaw says the Trump administration has targeted Canada, the top foreign market for ethanol.
“But we’re just hopeful that maybe some shots have been fired now and they can sit down at the table and work some things out.”
He tells Brownfield the strong trade relationship between the U.S. and Canada needs to be maintained.
“We understand that Trump wants to make sure that America is getting the best deal that we can, and that’s fine. But we hope that we can get there maybe a little bit more smoothly than what some paths would lead us on.”
Canada has been the leading importer of U.S. ethanol for more than 40 consecutive months.
