Cong. Latta concerned with ARPI rule
Changes to the Area Risk Protection Insurance (ARPI) plan, administered by the USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) has prompted Ohio 5th District Congressman Bob Latta to send a letter to RMA Administrator Brandon Willis.
Congressman Latta is concerned with the change to the rule that would eliminate specialty crops, such as popcorn from being included, meaning growers would no longer be able to purchase extra protection for popcorn.
“I want to ensure that policies, such as the ARPI rule, do not place farmers at a disadvantage that hurts their ability to manage risk for popcorn production, as well as jeopardize future supplies of popcorn that could increase prices for consumers,” the letter reads.
