Congress scrambling amid funding bill chaos
A government funding plan collapsed Wednesday amid pushback from incoming Trump administration officials, putting funding for some key agricultural provisions in question.
U.S. Congresswoman Ashley Hinson says she supports President-elect Trump’s opposition to the Continuing Resolution released Tuesday. She suggests a so-called “clean” CR can still benefit farmers and ranchers.
“I think President Trump is right. President Trump overwhelmingly won this election, and the American people did vote for disruption and change. I stand with him in this fight. We should move a clean CR. We should address the debt ceiling, provide disaster relief, extend the farm bill and give our farmers much needed aid.”
During a press call Thursday morning, the Iowa Republican said it’s uncertain if the inclusion of year-round E15 would be part of a new bill.
“When I talked about E15, I advocated for that year-round E15 to be included in year-end legislation alongside the disaster relief because I think it’s about making sure our farmers and our producers have the support that they need right now and the certainty that they need right now after four years of hardship under the Biden administration.”
If Congress doesn’t get a stopgap funding bill passed by Friday’s midnight deadline the government will shut down.
