Congressional ag leaders seek Obama's pork trade help

A bipartisan group of lawmakers is asking President Obama to make restoration of U.S. pork trade with countries that have recently restricted it a top priority. In a letter tothe president, Senate Ag Chairman Tom Harkin, House Ag Chairman Collin Peterson and eight other lawmakers praised his administration for working to dispel the myth that the H1N1 outbreak in people has something to do with the safety of U.S. pork.

They’re asking Obama, AgSecretary Vilsack and U.S. Trade Representative Kirk to “continue to place a high priority on maintaining access to pork and meat export markets around the world” by continued engagement with “our trading partners” to swiftly resolve all border disruptions.
