Cool down brings relief to some crops
A cool down at the end of last week helped some crop conditions in Michigan.
As of last Sunday, the USDA says corn is rated at 56 percent good to excellent with 89 percent in the dough stage, 58 percent dented, and 10 percent mature. About 23 percent of corn has been harvested for silage.
Soybeans are 13 percent dropping leaves with 53 percent of the crop in good to excellent condition.
Dry beans are 98 percent setting pods and 50 percent dropping leaves with the crop rated 25 percent good to excellent. Sugarbeets are rated 53 percent good to excellent and three percent of the crop was harvested.
Apple growers are reporting excellent quality this season with some varieties continuing to be harvested. Summer vegetable harvests are ongoing and some growers are concerned about low pumpkin yields.
