Corn and rice harvests nearly done in Arkansas

Nearly all of the Arkansas corn and most of the rice has been harvested as of Sunday.

USDA reporters say 95% of the corn is in the bin. Eighty-five percent of the rice has been harvested.

Ninety-six percent of the cotton bolls are opening, with 21% of the cotton crop now harvested.

The peanut harvest has picked up with 41% of the crop in, and 19% of that in the last week.

Ninety-three percent of the soybeans are coloring, with 81% dropping leaves. Forty-seven percent of the Arkansas soybeans have been harvested.

Thirty-six percent of the sweet potatoes have been harvested.

Winter wheat planting is underway with 4% finished.

Soil moisture levels are widely varied with 25% of topsoil having excess moisture, 50% adequate moisture, 16% short and 9% very short.
