Corn Belt Ports preparing for 2025 grants
The executive director of Corn Belt Ports says the region is poised for growth.
Robert Sinkler says the initiative that serves ports along the upper Mississippi and Illinois Rivers is assisting projects for the Port Infrastructure Development Program.
“Historically, we have not done a very good job of taking advantage of programs that the US Department of Transportation has to offer.” He says, “So, we’re focusing heavily on that. We’re trying to identify projects. There will be another round of funding available next year.”
He tells Brownfield it’s an opportunity to strengthen local supply chains.
“We’ve said from the very beginning of our Corn Belt Ports initiative, we can’t invest in a port doesn’t exist.” He says, “By organizing ourselves, it just allows us to be more nationally visible and more competitive.”
Sinkler says since its inception in 2019, the Corn Belt Ports initiative has helped secure over $2 billion in investments from a variety of public and private sources.
The Corn Belt Ports Upper Mississippi River Ports held its first annual meeting recently in Moline.
