Corn for ethanol use, soybean crush down from December to January

Corn demand for ethanol production dipped slightly in January.

The USDA says 460.951 million bushels of corn were used for ethanol production to start 2026, falling 4% on the month and 1% on the year, partially due to weather disruptions.

Production of distillers dried grains with solubles was 1,778,261 tons, a decline of 8% from December 2025 and 4% from January 2025.

January soybean crush numbers were mixed.

The USDA says 228 million bushels of beans were crushed in January, 2 million lower than December 2025, but 15 million larger than January 2025 thanks to crush margins and product demand expectations.

Soybean meal stocks were below a year ago, while soybean oil supplies swelled.

The USDA’s next round of 2025/26 corn for ethanol use and soybean crush projections are out March 10th at Noon Eastern/11 Central.
